Asso Tucan de Paradis introduces first, as the name ‘Heaven’s Toucan’ suggests, in the center of the dial is a three-dimensional depiction of a toucan living in the tropical Amazon forest. It is a reinterpretation of a silk scarf of the same name designed by British illustrator Katie Scott in 2020 as a dial design. The result looks simple, but the production process is by no means easy.
The dial making process is roughly as follows. Using a delicate brush, apply the enamel paint mixed with glass powder and natural oil in multiple layers on the front and back of the white gold base instead of the commonly used brass (brass) base, and repeat the process of baking in a kiln at a high temperature of 800 degrees C or higher. It forms a unique background pattern that looks like a palm tree is harmonized with a blue color background. And, instead of omitting the enameling treatment for the part in the center that is shaped like a bird’s head, use a sharp burine (chisel) to create a border as if engraving, and twist and press the colorful silk threads one by one to attach Asso Tucan de It completes the artistic dial unique to Paradis.
Although Hermès is well versed in various Metier d’Art techniques, this is the first time that these two opposing techniques have been filled with weaving decorations using more than 500 strands of silk, especially in making a dial. Inspired by a traditional Japanese kimono weaving workshop, it took five years to study the techniques for making one dial and to master it completely by the relevant specialists.
The case is set with 82 diamonds on the bezel part on a 38mm diameter white gold background to add a splendid impression. Sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on the front and back of the case is used, and it is water resistant to 30m. The movement is equipped with an automatic caliber H1912 with a modified epoch, supplied by the Vaucher manufacturer, in which Hermes owns a stake (frequency of 4 Hz, power reserve of 50 hours). Through the see-through caseback, you can appreciate the unique movement that is repeatedly engraved with the brand’s iconic H-Initial Monogram pattern logo. The strap, named Zanzibar blue, is a bright blue calfskin strap matching the color of the dial background, fastened with a pin-shaped white gold buckle.
Asso Tucan de Paradis is a limited edition that is produced and released in limited quantities of only 24 pieces, and the retail price was not disclosed due to the nature of the handmade Metier Darre timepiece with special care.
Asso the Three Graces is a work created by British illustrator and fairy tale writer Alice Shirley, who has continued to partner with Maison Hermès, in the famous work of Italian Renaissance painter Raphael, ‘The Three Gods. Graces), a silk scarf in a three giraffe print design is reproduced on the dial of the watch.
A total of 195 pieces of wood that have been cut, bleached and dyed in various sizes, depicting different types of trees and grasses with miniature painting techniques on an Aventurine glass dial reminiscent of the South African night sky – American walnut and Maples, European maples and tulips – are densely filled and glued using traditional Marquetry techniques, then the rough surface is sanded back to a curved surface and treated with a protective varnish finish to create the perfect shape of the cute giraffe. . You can see that the pieces of wood were carefully selected to give a more realistic depiction of the giraffe’s voluminous silhouette and mottled fur pattern. However, due to the limited dial space, three giraffes could not be accommodated like the original ‘The Three Grace’ scarf, and we had to be satisfied with one.replica watches
